VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Ghost River Rediscovery Volunteer Program

Ghost River Rediscovery Society is an award winning, non-profit organization that has successfully offered outdoor and cultural education programs based on Aboriginal traditions for the past decade. We were the recipients of the 2005 “George Blondeau Aboriginal Inclusiveness Award” from the United Way of Calgary and Area, and the 2004 “Chief David Crowchild Memorial Award” from the City of Calgary in recognition of our work in bridging the gap and creating relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultures.

Ghost River Rediscovery Societys programs offer the Rediscovery experience to all cultures and ages, however we are recognized for our capacity to run quality programs that promote the rediscovery of tradition and the development of healthy, sustainable lifestyles among children and youth. We have assisted over a thousand youth in strengthening their feelings of self confidence and self worth, developing their leadership skills with a respect for the environment and awareness of their culture and traditions.

Volunteering with Us

Ghost River Rediscovery Society honours all those individuals who have an interest in working with us as volunteer. We recognize that individuals choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons and interests. Our goal is to offer you personal and/or professional growth opportunities through the Rediscovery experience. Our volunteer program is designed to meet the needs of our youth and volunteers in a mutually respectful and good way.

Volunteers at Ghost River Rediscovery offer their time for a number of activities including;

• spending time working in the office,
• putting up and tearing down camps,
• craft workshops,
• billeting and hosting youth from all over the world
• driving when needed
• general fundraising activities
• special events such as major fundraisers and Powwows

Aboriginal Awareness education is offered to our volunteers as well as opportunities to experience Aboriginal culture in a unique way through traditional ceremonies and events.

Professional growth in the area of youth education and outdoor leadership offers opportunities to work with youth in a variety of inter-personal experiences. This may include spending time with youth during the New Directions – Ancient Pathways program, special events or other youth group activities.

Our Billeting Program offers an opportunity for volunteers to connect with youth from all over Canada and the world. Sharing time and space creates a cross-cultural experience unique to Ghost River Rediscovery through our International Programs.
