Turtle Summer Camp (Ages 8-12)
Dates: July 2nd - July 6th
|
Wake up in a tipi at sunrise, learn about the plants and animals of the natural
world around us, and hear stories and songs from Elders and staff around the
council fire!
The Turtle program is a unique and exciting opportunity for youth to experience
the natural world in a cultural and safe environment. Days are filled with
engaging activities, Cultural sharing and environmental learning,, all within an
Aboriginal based program. Surrounded by the incredible mountains of the
Devils Gap area, participants will develop new bonds between themselves,
others, and the land. Designed specifically for first time participants, it’s the
ideal experience for those just learning about the great outdoors!

Black Bear Summer Camp (Ages 8-12)
Dates: August 3rd - August 7th
|
Wake up in a tipi at sunrise, spend the day with friends, and hear the stories and
songs from Elders and staff around the council fire!
The Black Bear program is a marvellous opportunity for returning youth to
experience the outdoors in a cultural and safe environment. It is designed for
those who have previous experience at a Ghost River Rediscovery camp, and
focuses more thoroughly on land-based skills and teachings. Days are filled with
exciting and engaging activities, cultural sharing and ecological learning, all
within an Aboriginal-based program. Surrounded by the amazing mountains of
the Devils Gap area, participants will return to develop new bonds between
themselves, others, and the land.

Eagle Summer Camp (Ages 13-17)
Dates: July 9th - July 16th
|
The Eagle program is designed for youth to take the next step in their journey to
becoming young leaders for the future. Set in the stunning mountains of the
Devils Gap area, participants will sleep in a tipi, learn about traditional crafts,
acquire the valuable skills of survival on the land, and have the opportunity to
take part in an overnight solo. As they connect with the land, they will utilize
cultural teachings to develop and strengthen their inner identity.
Based on Aboriginal traditions and wisdom, our Elders and staff guide and
nurture youth leadership skills, confidence and positive cultural awareness.
Participants will be encouraged to challenge themselves and recognize their gifts
and potential during this seven day life-changing experience!

Buffalo Summer Camp (Males, ages 15-19)
Dates: August 11 - August 19th
|
The buffalo is one of the only animals that will face a storm and walk into it, instead of running away, in order to get through to the other side faster! This program was designed and named for the young men following the determination and strength of the buffalo.
This all-male experience is a chance for young men to further develop their personal skills and leadership qualities. Participants will journey through the landscape of the Ghost River Wilderness with backpacks, outdoor skills and the teachings of Aboriginal culture. The journey is also within them as they carve a new path for themselves that will forever impact their lives. The Rite of Passage from boyhood to manhood is honoured as participants explore what it means to be a man and gain useful life lessons.

Wolf Summer Camp (Females, ages 15-19)
Dates: August 12th - August 19th
|
Following the wisdom and knowledge of our grandmothers, this program passes on teachings to assist young women as they prepare for the journey to the next phase in their life. Elders and Staff will explore the challenges faced and offer guidance to the questions participants face on their journey into womanhood. Based on ceremonies and traditional rites of passage, this cultural outdoor education program specifically addresses young women who are seeking to discover their gifts and potentials, and accept the responsibilities of their coming of age.
Set in the breathtaking mountains of the Devils Gap area, the Wolf summer program can be a life changing experience! Participants will share a tipi, have the opportunity to participate in a solo, and discover what it means to be a family and community all while learning and sharing with each other.

Wilderness Skills Training (Ages 18 and up)
Dates: June 20th - June 30tht
|
The Wilderness skills Training is designed to teach and practice the leadership skills needed to work in culturally based outdoor programs. Useful for anyone who understands the importance of the inner journey while travelling safely in the outdoors, the course is of particular relevance to those working in Aboriginal youth programs, wilderness therapy, ecocultural tourism and at-risk youth programs. The course is intensive, often fun and sometimes life changing. Instructors with many years of practical experience in the field teach it. Students experience a living Rediscovery camp, learn about the standards expected from outdoor professionals, explore the healing and educational aspects of outdoor programs and receive training and practice.

Mountain Spirit Camp (Adult)
Dates: August 12th - 20th
|
Mountain Spirit is an adult program that offers a chance to look deeply at your
life and purpose and to re-experience your connection to the Earth and all of Life. Based on ancient rites of passage found in the original teachings of all cultures, this camp draws on traditional Aboriginal teachings with today’s realities and challenges.
People come to Mountain Spirit who are ready to make deep shifts in their lives,
to mark an important change or passage in their lives, or who are looking for renewed guidance and inspiration. Profound friendships are forged at this program and people come from an enormous range of backgrounds and experience.
Participants renew their relationship with the Earth, and learn about the medicines, plants and animals of the area. You will have an opportunity to participate in traditional ceremonies, such as the Sweat lodge. We also teach you the basic skills you need to spend time safely on the land, preparing you for a solo quest. You will then have the opportunity to spend three days by yourself on the land. After the solo, we spend time to process, celebrate and begin learning from an experience that will last a lifetime! Mountain Spirit has been a life-changing spiritual journey for many people.
