RANGE OF SERVICES

Ghost River Rediscovery is an approved outdoor education service provider with the Calgary Board of Education. We are accredited by the Alberta Camping Association and maintain business and guiding permits in Kananaskis Country, Banff National Park and a variety of provincial parks and wilderness areas in the Province of Alberta. Customized programs are available for schools, youth centers, and various other organizations. Prices will vary depending on the activities selected and the level of planning and facilitation required. Consultations are available to work creatively on a program that meets your needs.

GRR RSP Program provides the following range of services:

  • Customized camps: summer and winter camps for children, youth and adults
  • Day Hiking: summer and winter trips for different ability levels and learning goals
  • Backpacking: we can help with trip planning, preparation and provide experienced, qualified leaders.
  • Canoeing: we can organize, outfit and guide wilderness canoe expeditions
  • Summer and winter wilderness living and survival: fire-making, shelter-building etc.
  • Bear awareness: living and traveling safely and respectfully in bear country
  • Ancestral technologies and crafts: hide tanning, drum-making, traditional weapons, clothing and tools, birch-bark canoe building etc.

  • Aboriginal awareness: history, traditions and lifeways. Teachings of the Drum, talking circles, the medicine wheel, cultural practices, teachings of the Elders, traditional teaching stories, tipi living, etc.
  • Ethnobotany: using plants for food, medicine and crafts
  • Wilderness rites of passage: coming of age traditions, creating alternative graduation celebrations
  • Initiative and challenge exercises: activities to help groups explore their true potential in a hands-on way
  • Cross-cultural education: activities to explore the world between cultures, songs, stories and traditions from the four directions
  • Environmental education: experiential activities to explore our relationship with the natural world
  • Looking Within: activities to explore the world within and to find one’s true gifts and place in the circle
  • Professional Development: we offer a range of training including outdoor leadership, wilderness first aid, experiential education and facilitation skills


Programs and activities can be carried out at a variety of field sites. Camps/day programs for up to 30 people at a time can be arranged at our road-accessible wilderness camp in the Ghost River area (approx. 50 minutes from Calgary). We can arrange food, cooks, guides, and facilitation services as required.
