RSP presents: THE GRANDFATHER SUN SOLAR PROJECT
By bringing participants closer to the land, we teach them the importance of caring for the earth, conserving our resources, and walking through life with a light ecological footprint. The wisdom of ancient cultural thinking creates a positive awareness for the environment, leaving participants with a healthier perspective on their stewardship of the land.
As an organization we recognize that we cannot go back and live in the old ways. We can however, take the wisdom of this thinking and apply it to modern life, creating new and innovative ways to keep up with the demands of the day, while conserving energy and caring for the land. The Grandfather Sun Solar Project is one of these ways that we intend to carry this important message forward.
With the support of the Shell Environmental Fund, Ghost River Rediscovery RSP Program is currently installing a solar power system within our camps. Our camps consist of tipis, Nordic cabins, Mongolian yurts, and wall tents for gear and kitchens. We are expanding to include several other traditional dwellings such as a Northern Pithouse, West Coast Longhouse, and Eastern Longhouse. We are providing solar power to some of these structures so that we may include this teaching in our programs, and provide a working example of the wisdom, practicality, and efficiency of this kind of power source.
The Grandfather Sun Solar Project is about education, stewardship, and becoming the change that we would like to see. |
