2012 COOK / CAMP SUPERVISOR

 * Ghost
River Rediscovery camps are wilderness based camps that require adequate outdoor experience and animal / environmental awareness*

Purpose: The Camp Kitchen Supervisor / Cook will spend the majority of the summer season (June until September), at our remote wilderness base camp, which operates with the bare minimum of facilities, and be comfortable operating a kitchen that functions without the use of electricity or plumbing.  During this time, they will be responsible for the planning, purchasing, storage, and preparation of all kitchen and meal needs for the camp program.   This person is also required to assist with both camp set-up, take down, and inventory.  

Qualifications:

  • Skilled in food preparation and knowledgeable of food storage standards in a wilderness environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working with youth
  • Comfortable being by themselves in a wilderness environment and within the vicinity of wildlife (i.e. curious bears) 
  • Familiar with vegetarian needs and other common food allergies
  • Food Safe
Start date: approx June 2012

Wage: varies depending on experience


2012 SUMMER INSTRUCTOR

Purpose:  As part of our instructor team you will be responsible for contributing to all aspects of our Summer Cultural Outdoor Education Programs.  Instructors are responsible for their groups 24hrs/day while in our base camp and on out-trip, and must be comfortable spending extended periods of time in a remote wilderness setting. 
Qualifications:    

  • Knowledgeable of Aboriginal cultural traditions and protocols
  • Experience leading groups in remote settings
  • Strong group facilitation and risk management skills
  • Minimum 40hr Wilderness First Aid
  • Previous experience working with challenging behaviors and youth
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
  • Satisfactory criminal record check and child intervention check   
  • A person who is hard working, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible. 

Skills that are an Asset:

  • Related training in Rediscovery
  • Bronze Cross and/or NLS Certification
  • Class 4 License

Basic duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with program delivery
  • Completing daily logs and paperwork
  • Providing strong confident leadership
  • Contributing to daily camp operations and chores
  • Attending camp-set up training and assisting with camp take-down and inventory

Start date: approx June 2012

Wage: varies depending on experience
